Why not fishing gear?

Think about it, its unreliable-are you going to sit in one place for hours to maybe get a fish? But if you good at it, and it won't take the place of something else, were you are or are traveling to, more vital- go for it, but think (i,e,) one raw fish may equate in energy to one trail bar. Ever hear of one in hand is better than X (number) in the bush?

This is a good read, and I enjoy others idea's about EDC gear. I'm going to reread your list but it seems well thought out. They do have magnesium fire stick that shot sparks and seem like they would be effective one handed.
Keep it up.

You're not the first to ask that question! Sounds like I need to write up my reasons in a post... and I will!

Curious to find out why "Neither the scouts, nor I, recommend including fishing gear as a survival tool! "

It's so compact and can come in really handy. I'd like to hear why you don't recommend it.

This is a great article, but I am curious why you and the BSA discourage fishing gear? Please send a reply, either by site post or email. Thanks!
